GATE 2020- Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering is the common entrance examination for postgraduate engineering students. This examination is organized by any one of the seven IITs or IISc under the National Coordination Board-GATE, HRD Ministry, Government of India. The examination evaluates students of their theoretical knowledge in their respective field of engineering. Every year the number of engineering students from all over the country appearing for the examination is increasing. Important dates of GATE 2020 has been announced officially by IIT Delhi . The Application form portal GOAPS Portal for GATE 2020 will be active from 3rd September 2019. Examination pattern for GATE 2020
GATE is a computer-based examination and like any other competitive examination, this too follows the Multiple Choice Question pattern to evaluate the students. However, in addition to MCQs, it also has a special segment called the Numeric Answer Type or NATs. Here, the students have to solve the problem given and the answer is a real number inputted via the keyboard.
The questions are divided into four different sections namely: Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability, Technical ability, and Engineering Mathematics. Numerical and Verbal Ability tests the students’ General Aptitude whereas the Technical and Engineering Mathematics section tests the knowledge of the students’ in their particular engineering domain. Marking Scheme of GATE
A total of 65 questions is asked which are carry either one marks or two marks. If the answer is incorrect, there will be negative marking. One-third mark of the actual mark of the question is deducted for every wrong answer. This is applicable only for the MCQs. The general aptitude section has ten questions, 5 one-mark questions, and 5 two-mark questions. This accounts for around 15 percent of the total marks. The rest is asked from technical and Engineering Mathematics section wherein again the questions are divided into one and two mark questions. There are 25 one-mark question and 30 two-mark questions. The difficulty level can be predicted beforehand from the institute that is going to organize the examination particular year. It is however tough to determine the level according to the institute. GATE 2020 Examination Preparation
Students who are willing to appear for GATE 2020, must start preparing for GATE 2020 immediately. For general category students, the qualifying marks vary from 25 to 50 (out of 100). For OBCs, the qualifying marks are 90 percent of the general category marks whereas for SC/ST it 2/3rd of the same marks.
A good score in GATE 2020, will allow students to complete their post graduation in the renowned technical institutes like IIT or NITs. They can also apply for entry-level jobs at Public Sector Units ( PSUs). For this, one needs to score well in GATE. Getting qualifying marks is not enough.
