How to Prepare for GATE 2020 ECE Electronics & Communication Engineering

A big question that crops up in the mind of all GATE aspirants is how to Prepare for GATE 2022 ECE Electronics & Communication Engineering by IIT Delhi ? GATE is not an exam where one has to mug up every possible thing. It is a technical exam, having knowledge of few tricks and tips to solve the questions easily and also saving time is necessary. GATE 2022 will be held by IIT Delhi in Feburary  for 24 papers – including the newly announced paper “Statistics (ST)”. The application process for GATE 2022 is now over.

For a comprehensive preparation, GATE Sample Papers will provide the understanding of the core concepts and topics. 70-85% weightage is given to the technical (core) section and the rest is from General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics.

Why GATE 2022 is Important

GATE is the not just entrance test for M.Tech admissions but also is one route to PSU recruitment making it the reason for the huge competition seen in GATE in recent years. With so much at stake, only the well-prepared candidates will make it past the qualifying stage. Take a look below on the simple but detailed steps on how to prepare for GATE Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE).

  • GATE examination consists only of multiple and numerical answer type questions, hence only correct answer fetches marks.
  • Practice previous year question papers and analyze the weak topics and concentrate more on those topics. Candidates must try to solve the papers in a given time limit to obtain an idea as to how many questions are solved within the allotted time.
  • Impart equal emphasis on both theory and numerical problems.
  • Browse through the GATE 2022 Syllabus by IIT Delhi for topics allotted more weightage and prepare them.
  • Group Study is an effective way to brush up knowledge about technical topics with fellow partners and also helps to explore new techniques and methods to better understand the topics.
  • Do not make wild guess as there is negative marking associated with the questions.
  • Prepare the list of important definitions, equations, derivations, theorems, laws in every subject.

GATE 2022 Preparation Strategy for ECE by IIT Madras

Electronics and Communications Engineering is an electrical engineering deal with the electronic devices, circuits, communication equipment like transmitter, receiver, integrated circuits (IC). There is no change in GATE ECE syllabus. The paper code for Electronics and Communications Engineering Paper is EC.

PREPARATION TIMELINE

It is important to plan your studies in a way that you can complete syllabus at least 2-3 months before GATE 2019. Then only you can devote time for effective Revision and Test Series.

Plan those subjects first in which you are most comfortable in / they carry high weightage. For example, for Electronics & Communication Engineering, we are showing one sample order of covering subjects:

  • Analog Circuits
  • Network Theory
  • Communication Systems
  • Electromagnetic Theory
  • Signal and Systems
  • Control Systems

This is one recommended order of preparation for Electronics & Communication Engineering (if you are not very weak in Electronics & Communication). Before starting preparation, try to allot time to every subject so that you can cover syllabus in time.

GO FOR ONLINE MOCK TESTS for ECE Branch

One of the most important aspects of GATE preparation without coaching is online test series and mock tests by IIT Delhi. GATE online test series or test series by coaching institutes, candidates must opt for both. Mock tests are acquainted with the online exam system of GATE. So anyone having taken mock tests and practiced sample papers/question papers will have an edge over the candidates who have not taken the mock test.

Mock Tests by IITians are really important as they give you an idea of the type of questions that you can expect in the gate exam. It is advisable to candidates that they go through the previous years’ GATE questions as the pattern is more or less the same.

NOTES MAKING

When starting to prepare, generally aspirants are having a tendency to make notes in great detail but after few months, they realize that since they understood the concepts right and if they are regularly solving numerical, they will rarely need to read those detailed notes again.

So, how to make useful notes without wasting time?

Look there are two types of notes that we recommend you should make:

Short notes: This include formulas plus 1-2 liner concepts which cover the whole relevant GATE syllabus in shortest time possible. Try to write very common and obvious concepts as short as you can. No need to write full sentences. You can use diagrams, flow-charts, arrow etc. to make it short and crisp.

To give you an idea, you have to make them so concise that you can revise 1 subject in just 2-3 hours.

You observe something conceptually new in that question, note that question down. Also note what the good thing you found in that question is. Keep revising these notes weekly. This way you will never forget the learning from these questions and numerical solving capability will also improve gradually, which is very important for gate.

AVOID DISTRACTIONS

There are some common distractions such as relationships, family problems, mobile games and social media websites that aspirants face while preparing for the exams. Divert your attention away from everything test-related. Whatever it is you do to relax, do it but avoid consuming alcohol or smoking. Hydrate yourself to stay healthy and fresh.

Weightage of subjects in GATE 2022 ECE by IIT Delhi

  • Candidates are marked separately for MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and NAT (Numerical Answer Type).
  • For every correct answer in MCQ, candidates are awarded 1 mark or 2 marks depending on the weightage of the question.
  • For every incorrect MCQ, candidate loses 1/3 or 2/3 marks for 1 mark or 2 markers respectively.
  • For Numerical Answer Type, every correct answer is awarded 1 mark or 2 marks as per the marks allotted to the question. There is no negative marking for such questions.

GO FOR GROUP STUDY

There may be areas or topics where you feel stuck or are hard to solve. Here coaching is not the only solution. You must have parallel plans for it. For clearing your doubts and understanding the topics, problems better, you must closely engage in group discussions with the like-minded people.

STRENGTHEN YOUR CONCEPTS AND CALCULATIONS

The conceptual understanding will stand you in good stead when you are not sure of an answer but can figure it out based on your understanding of the topics. Honing your calculation skills will hold you in good stead in the actual exam when speed is of the essence.

STAY MOTIVATED AND DETERMINED

To crack GATE, you need to keep yourself motivated not to give up on your target. Once your determination starts to wither, you need to bounce back quickly.

“Hard work is essential but being happy is equally necessary for any successes. My suggestion is to Plan your work first and then work on your plan, complete your task in time, be confident and remain happy.

REVISION IS A MUST

The last stage before the GATE exam which is quite important and a larger portion of what you have prepared so far is manifested as per how you revise what you have studied/prepared. If this exercise is not done well, then whatever you have studied so far may go for a toss when it comes to attempting in the actual examination. Thus, the revision is a must. Here your short notes can come to your rescue and save you a lot of time.
